Ikena Permit
For Hawaii architecture & engineering firms

Find DPP's correction list before DPP does.

Ikena Permit reads your plan set and returns every probable ROH §16, IBC, and Honolulu LUO violation — with verbatim section citations — in about 30 minutes. The same issues a plan checker flags. Found before you submit, not six weeks after.

Ridge height 31'-6" above finish grade. 3:12 pitch does not qualify for the sloped-roof exception. R-5 cap is 25'-0" (non-sloped) or 30'-0" at ≥ 4:12 pitch.
ROH §21-3.50-3(a)· “…a structure with a sloped roof having a pitch of not less than 4:12 may have a maximum height of 30 feet.”

The DPP timeline problem
6–8 wks
Typical DPP standard-permit review. You submit, then you wait.
40+ items
Average correction list on a first submission. Each one adds another cycle.
30 min
How long Ikena Permit takes to find the same probable flags — before you submit.

Every resubmission cycle burns 2–4 weeks and direct coordination time. Catching a setback violation before submission costs $199. Catching it after costs a project schedule.

Citation-anchored
Every flag includes the verbatim quoted code section — exact-matched against the source corpus before publishing. No hallucinated section numbers.
Insurance-grade audit trail
Every report stores model version, prompt hash, sheet+page citation, and reviewer timestamp. When your E&O carrier asks how you verified, you show them.
Built in Honolulu
Made by an HI-based studio that has lived through DPP plan-check cycles. ROH Title 21, ROH §16, IBC 2018 — not a mainland tool with Hawaii notes appended.

Who we are

Built in Honolulu. Made for Hawaii practice.

Ikena Permit is a product of Ikena Design & Build LLC, a Honolulu-based design studio. We have worked inside Hawaii's permitting system long enough to know exactly where plan-check comments come from — and we built the tool we wished existed.

The AI reads your drawings visually, the same way a plan checker would. The corpus is ROH Title 21 (Land Use Ordinance), ROH §16 (Building Code), and IBC 2018 — not a generic mainland code tool with Hawaii notes appended.

Do you file anything with DPP on my behalf?
No. Ikena Permit is a read-only analysis and drafting tool. We never contact any permitting authority, file documents, or act as your agent in any proceeding.
What happens to my PDF?
Your plan set is transmitted over TLS, processed by Anthropic's API for visual analysis, and stored for 90 days then deleted. Anthropic does not use API data for model training.
Can the report replace professional review?
No. Every report requires review by the Hawaii-licensed architect or engineer of record. The AI surfaces probable issues; you make the professional judgment.
